When connecting a USB device, Windows will "see" it immediately, no matter what it may be. Sometimes this can get annoying because you have very little control over this. If you plug in a flash drive, the autoplay window can get in your way and hinder your work. USB Manager gives you complete control over this aspect. With the aid of a simple system tray icon, you can enable or disable USB flash drives, printers, scanners or audio devices.

USB Manager is freeware, which means that you can download it and use all its features without being charged for anything. The download is roughly one Mb large and the installation process is fast.

USB Manager will run as a system tray icon and you can enable or disable USB devices by right clicking this icon and clicking the appropriate option in the context menu. Alternatively, you can bring up a simple interface by clicking the Main Window option in the same context menu. The same enable/disable actions can be performed by clicking on one of the large icons on the main window.

The software can be set to launch automatically at system startup in order to apply your settings immediately. This option can be enabled from the software's main settings panel. To prevent anyone from changing your settings, you may also hide the system tray icon and set a hot key for bringing up the options window. Finally, you can lock this window with a password.

Pros

USB Manager is free and you can install it on your computer in no time. It works as a system tray icon and you can disable USB devices with simple options, found in a context menu.

Cons

It would have been better if the main window had included buttons and not icons. You may have to click twice on one of the icons to enable or disable something. USB Manager gives you a better grip on what USB devices may or may not be used on your computer. With a few clicks of the mouse, you can prevent any device from being plugged in.
